From geolocation services and supercomputers in your pocket, from the apps boom to augmented reality, it seems like the Internet isn’t about the desktop, it’s about carrying nearly infinite access to data, communications, and computation with you at all times. Right now we see that in the boom in smartphones, the silicon equivalent of the Swiss Army knife–combining the functions of phones, PCs, cameras, satellite navigation devices, game consoles, remote controls, e-readers, MP3 players and portable TVs and radios.

Will this be the key piece of technology in our lives and economy? What will that do to existing businesses? What solutions might emerge to overcome screen and keyboard size limitations? Will new interfaces and voice recognition dramatically evolve user interaction? How will new research into augmented reality and connected human networks add to mobile awareness? What does all this mean to the future of the computer?
